3 facts about poverty in latin America:

1. One of five latin americans lives in  cronic poverty

    At around of 10 % of the population, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile have te lowest rates of cronic poverty. Rates in Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatemala are significantly higher than the regional average of 21 percent, ranging from 37 percent in Nicaragua to 50 percent in Guatemala.

2. Cronic poverty is as much an urban issue as it is rural
 
     Rural areas are offten associated with haigher poverty persistance. In Bolivia rural poverty chronicity is tree times higher and over 20 % points higher dan in urban areas.
In at least 5 countries the number of urban cronic poor surpasses the number of rural cronic poor.

3. Economic growth was not enough to lift the chronic poor out of poverty
   
     Countries that have the highest rates of chronic poverty do not grew this last decade. One example is Guatemala that grew less than 1 percent this year.
