My Proyect Report ( Andrea Terán)

INVESTIGATING The topic we have to do in this case is Poverty in Latin America but I was focus in the percentages of poverty and in the real cases of the topic. With the members of our group we decide the topics of each of us and we have very clear that we will not make copy paste of the information we have to upload on the blog. PLANNING We decide that we can publish any topic but it has to be interesting and it cannot be repited. I think in the blog we have to put a lot of things so people can understand more about the topic, in mi case I upload one video that I think is really interesting because we can see the real life of poor Latin Americans. In each hour of class we have to make a different entry, no matter if it is videos, photos or a interesting article. TAKING ACTION I have published in the blog 5 times. I focused mainly on the percentages because it seems very interesting to me, since through the numbers we can realize some things that maybe we did not know and

MY PROYECT REPORT-PLANNING

PLANNING: The first day we did the project we did the blog first we did not have much idea of how other people can publish, and on the second and third day each member of the group had already uploaded at least one post for our blog, also the third day we helped each other the information for our input, the fifth day we went to the library and uploaded two other blog entries on the sixth day we searched for videos or images that are consistent with the blog. (MIKAEL KORNECK)

My project report

INVESTIGATING We choose the topic poverty in Latin America because we think it will be an interesting topic to search on the internet, and to know how it started the poverty in Latin America and how to prevent the poverty. We have to search in 2 or more pages and we decide with our members to do not do copy paste we have to read and resume in our words. Planning  With our members we decide to each one have at least 5 entries. Everyone was able to do what ever he or she wants but with the topic poverty in Latin America but it cannot repeat the same. We publish imformation, videos , photos, etc. We have to read the article and then with our own words put in the blog. Taking Action  We publish 20 entries in total, I publish 5 entries with the topic how it started to grow the poverty in Latin America and how we can prevent that it continues growing, what I found is that the poverty exist since the dictatorships and the corruption it exist. Rural poverty in Latin America ( Andrea Terán)

Imagen
Rural poverty in Latin America has declined over the last three decades.Reduction in the number of rural relative to urban poor has been mainly the outcome of migration, not of successful rural development. We show that rural incomes are explained by the asset position of households and the characteristics of the context where assets are used. Given heterogeneity in asset positions and contexts, many strategies to escape poverty consequently exist. We identify four paths out of poverty: exit, agricultural, pluriactive, and assistance.  Successful rural development to promote the agricultural and pluriactive paths requires a wholesale new approach based on regional development, decentralization and participation.  In Latin America the bulk of the benefits from technological change has been captured through indirect effects via the price of food, employment creation and contributions to aggregate growth.

There was a decade of decline before poverty rose in 2015 and 2016 ( Andrea Terán)

Imagen
The levels of poverty and extreme poverty have risen in Latin America in 2015 and 2016, after more than a decade of decline in the majority of countries in the region, according to a report by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean. While in 2014, 28.5 percent of the region was in poverty — 168 million people — that number jumped to 29.8 percent in 2015, then 30.7 percent in 2016. Extreme poverty, on the other hand, rose from 8.2 percent in 2014 (48 million people) to 10 percent in 2016 (61 million people). Income inequality also decreased between 2002 and 2016. However, the pace of its decline has slowed down. Honduras and Paraguay are among the countries that have seen these rising levels of poverty.

POVERTY

Despite these advancements, three shortcomings still need to be addressed. First, in some countries there are significant portions of the poor not being reached by these programs (while non-poor groups benefit from them). In principle exclusion errors could be resolved via expanded coverage, but in the tighter fiscal context faced by the region, this is more difficult. Looking forward, exclusion errors will need to be corrected through the politically more costly route of reducing the number of non-poor households that are currently being covered.

ADVANCES IN POVERTY

Advances in poverty reduction in Latin America over the last decade and a half have been remarkable. With a $4 a day poverty line, the region’s population living in poverty fell from 45 to 25 percent between 2000 and 2014; and with a stricter poverty line—$2.5 per day—from 28 to 14 percent. Three more facts show the depth of this improvement. First, with some variation, poverty fell in every country in the region; second, poverty did not increase between 2008 and 2010, the critical years of the global financial crisis; and third, despite a substantial deceleration in the region’s growth rate since 2011, poverty has not increased either.

Analysis of the percentages of poverty in Latin America ( Andrea Terán)

Imagen
In this image we can see the total percentage of indigent people and those who live in precarious conditions. I think the percentages are quite high and the solution for this is to promote education in the countries of Latin America because if we compare with Europe, the percentages there are quite low because the governors of the different countries focus on providing public education to the people who need it.

poverty Increased

Poverty and extreme poverty levels rose in Latin America as a regional average in 2015 and 2016, after more than a decade of declines in the majority of countries, while in 2017 they are expected to hold steady, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) said today. In 2014, 28.5% of the region’s population was in situations of poverty (168 million people), a percentage that increased to 29.8% in 2015 (178 million) and to 30.7% in 2016 (186 million people). Extreme poverty, meanwhile, rose from 8.2% in 2014 (48 million people) to 10% in 2016 (61 million people).

Important facts of poverty in Latin America ( Andrea Terán)

1.-  Latin Americans account for 130 million of the nearly 500 million who live in chronic poverty worldwide. 2.-   Nicaragua with 37 percent  and Guatemala with 50 percent have the highest chronic poverty rates in Latin America, which are well above the regional average of 21 percent.   3.-   Limited economic opportunities keep the poor in poverty. The biggest factor that led to poverty reduction from 2004-2012 was labor income. 4.-  Chronic poverty levels are falling. Between 2000 and 2014, the number of Latin Americans living on under $4 a day decreased from 45 percent to 25 percent. 5.- Poverty rates can also vary within a country. A single country can have both ends of the spectrum with the highest poverty rate that is eight times higher than the lowest.   6.-  Poor Latin Americans lack access to basic health care services. Approximately 20 percent of the Latin American and Caribbean population lack access to health care  due to their poverty conditions.

Real live of poor Latin Americans ( Andrea Terán)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFeGrWs-ETg This video is the reality that poor Latin Americans live. I think the most important cause of poverty is the education of people. The report cites that one in every five people in Latin America experience chronically poor. But some countries within the region are experiencing a disproportionate amount of hardship. The Central American nations of Nicaragua, Guatemala and Honduras  have a chronic poverty rate that is far higher than the regional average – half of the population in Guatemala and more than 40 percent of people in Honduras are chronically impoverished. Children, who by and large, were fleeing poverty and gang violence in their home countries of El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala.

But growth is not all. As mentioned, as of 2011 growth has decelerated; in fact, since then each year’s growth rate has been lower than the previous year, and in 2015 was negative (with a similar result expected in 2016). The second part of the story is associated with improved public policies. In

Causes of poverty in Latin America

The main causes of poverty in Latin America is the unequal distribution of wealth. In rural areas the peasants are the amongst the poorest people. Other causes is that are interna, conflicts, migration, higher fertility. Though South America has a vast natural resources, it is still the poorest people, because of the injustice and inequality.  The effects of poverty are social and political instability, drug addiction and insecurity. Extreme poverty is becoming a threat and can affect global economy. It generates social tensions especially when development policies fail. Latin American countries are amongst producers of illegal drugs. Cocaine production is very high in these nations. Drug trafficking has also has social costs to local communities and national institutions. It causes rampant violence and corruption leading to human rights abuse.

Poverty in latin america

POVERTY IN LATIN AMERICA 3 facts about poverty in latin America: 1. One of five latin americans lives in  cronic poverty     At around of 10 % of the population, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile have te lowest rates of cronic poverty. Rates in Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatemala are significantly higher than the regional average of 21 percent, ranging from 37 percent in Nicaragua to 50 percent in Guatemala. 2. Cronic poverty is as much an urban issue as it is rural        Rural areas are offten associated with haigher poverty persistance. In Bolivia rural poverty chronicity is tree times higher and over 20 % points higher dan in urban areas. In at least 5 countries the number of urban cronic poor surpasses the number of rural cronic poor. 3.   Economic growth was not enough to lift the chronic poor out of poverty          Countries that have the highest rates of chronic poverty do not grew this last decade. One example is Guatemala that grew less than 1 percent this year.  (
